Our Swimming Pool Construction Method

XL Pools is proud to be the UK’s installer for Aqua Technics pools. Aqua Technics Pools have been manufacturing award-winning fibreglass swimming pools for over 45 years. One-piece pools are typically made of fibreglass and are manufactured in purpose-built facilities. This makes the fit and finishes perfect every time. They are strong and durable, easy to clean and resistant to algae formation.

Due to their flexible design capability, they can be made in a variety of shapes. Aqua Technics pools offer some of the widest variety of shapes and sizes available here in the UK. They also boast the widest and deepest one-piece pool on the UK market.

A one-piece pool construction allows for steps, ledges and other features such as lighting and various pool maintenance equipment to be built into the shell of the pool itself. This can all save money and time in the construction and installation process.

One-piece pools have to be transported as one whole hence the name ‘One-piece’. Travel to the destination is usually by road on articulated lorries. Any restrictions (on say access) can inevitably create some restrictions on pool size in certain cases but otherwise, the shape and size of the pool can be customised.

Aqua Technics Pools can also come in a variety of colours and finishes, you can design your pool to reflect your taste and personality. From vibrant sapphire blue to classy black or brilliant white, you can make your pool blend into the background, or become a statement in your back garden.

XL Pools are the UK’s distributer and installer for Aqua Technics Pools and can offer a full end-to-end service.

One-Piece Swimming Pools

Why Choose a One-Piece Swimming Pool?

One piece pools are typically made of fiberglass. They are strong and durable, easy to clean and resistant to algae formation. Due to their flexible design capability, they can be made in a variety of shapes: uniform straight edges, contemporary curves, single depth or with a deep and shallow end. The construction allows for steps, ledges and other features, along with lighting and various pool maintenance equipment to be built into the shell of the pool itself, saving money and time in the construction and installation process.

One-piece pools have to be transported in one-piece, and usually travel to their destination by road on articulated lorries. This, combined with restrictions on access, can inevitably create some restrictions on pool size in certain cases, but otherwise, the shape and size of the pool can be highly customisable.

One-piece pools can also come in a variety of colours and finishes, so you can design your pool to reflect your taste and personality. From vibrant blue to classy black or brilliant white, you can make your pool blend into the background, or become a statement in your garden.

Other Swimming Pool Construction Methods

Concrete

There are three different methods to create a concrete swimming pool: reinforced concrete blockwork, shuttered and poured reinforced concrete or sprayed reinforced concrete (also known as gunite or shotcrete).

Concrete swimming pools are often lined with a cementitious waterproof membrane or are waterproof rendered. For the finish, large format ceramic, mosaic, or porcelain tiles are applied. An alternative could include marbelite – a plaster-type applied finish.

One of the biggest advantages of concrete pools is that you can have any size, shape or depth that you like. you are not limited by the manufacturers dimensions. This is particularly desirable when you want a totally unique pool built just for you.

Liner Pools

There are three types of frames or structures that a liner pool can be made up of. These are aluminum, blockwork or pre-insulated (to reduce heat loss), all of which are internally lined with a PVC plastic liner. The liner acts as both the finish of the new swimming pool but also the waterproof membrane, available in solid colour or patterned design.

Liners come in a range of qualities and standard. The highest available quality is on-site welded liner due to its durability and robustness in comparison to one-piece liner – also known as a ‘bag’ liner. As customers’ aspirations for pools have changed over the years, one key advantage to welded liner is the versatility of shape that can be achieved due to it being cut on-site.

As a means of lining old and cracked, leaking or soiled concrete pools, liners (or welder liners) are now commonly used in the refurbishment market. As with many products, liners have a shelf life, usually around seven to twenty years. At this point, liners can become wrinkled and stretched over time, as well as faded in colour, so a replacement is required.
