The clients wanted a swimming pool they could enjoy throughout the year, without being restricted by the British weather. Their brief was for a modern outdoor pool with an enclosure that could be opened during warmer weather and closed when conditions were less favourable.
We installed an Aqua Technics Aspen measuring 10.4m x 3.6m, finished in Twilight Pool Colour Guard. To make the pool suitable for extended seasonal use, we worked with Summit Leisure to incorporate a bespoke telescopic enclosure, allowing the homeowners to enjoy an open-air swimming pool in summer and a sheltered swimming environment during colder months.
A Zodiac PX50 MD12 air source heat pump was also installed to heat the pool water, with the enclosure helping to retain warmth and reduce exposure to the elements.
The property’s coastal location presented a significant challenge. With a high groundwater table, careful consideration was needed to manage the water surrounding the pool shell. We installed a hydrostatic relief valve alongside a dedicated groundwater well and submersible sump pump, allowing groundwater levels to be monitored and managed when necessary.
Access presented a separate problem. There was no suitable route through the property to transport the large one-piece pool into the rear garden, so a conventional delivery was not possible.
Instead, we arranged for a crane to lift the entire pool shell over the house and lower it into the prepared excavation. This required careful planning to coordinate the delivery, lifting operation and positioning of the pool.
Once the shell was installed, the remaining works were completed and the telescopic enclosure incorporated into the finished design.
The homeowners now have the flexibility they originally wanted, with a swimming pool that can be opened up to the garden during warmer weather or enclosed when conditions change. The combination of the enclosure and heating system also makes the pool more practical to enjoy outside the traditional summer swimming season.
