The clients wanted to create an indoor swimming pool and spa that reflected the distinctive interiors of their home, while providing facilities the whole family could enjoy. Alongside the main swimming pool and spa, they also wanted a separate shallow pool for their baby, allowing even the youngest member of the family to enjoy time in the water.

XL Pools constructed a bespoke reinforced concrete installation incorporating all three areas. The baby pool was designed to operate at a slightly warmer temperature and includes an air volcano jet, while curved steps create a transition between the spa and shallow pool.

The pool and spa were finished in Tomohawk mosaic tiles, selected for their reflective blue tones, with porcelain surrounds and white LED underwater lighting.

One of the most unusual features is the black reflective stretch ceiling, designed to create the appearance of a starry night above the swimming pool. When the pool is illuminated, the ceiling reflects the water and lighting below, giving the room a distinctive atmosphere.

A transparent automatic slatted Aqua Top cover was installed to help retain heat and reduce evaporation. The pool also incorporates UV disinfection and a chlorine feeder for water treatment, alongside a Heatstar environmental control system to manage humidity within the indoor pool room.

During construction, the project encountered an unexpected problem. Following exceptionally heavy rainfall, water penetrated through a newly laid patio above the pool room and collected behind the recently installed stretch ceiling.

The trapped water had to be carefully released and the cause addressed before work could continue, creating an interruption to the installation programme.

Once the issue was resolved, the remaining works progressed to completion.

The homeowners now have a private indoor leisure space with facilities for different ages and activities, from swimming and relaxing in the spa to introducing their youngest family member to the water.

The clients described the completed installation as a dream come true, with the starry ceiling and interconnected pools making it a particularly memorable project for our team.
