The clients wanted a swimming pool that would support their interest in fitness while providing somewhere the whole family could enjoy throughout the year. Rather than choosing between an indoor and outdoor pool, they wanted a space that offered the benefits of both.
The solution was a contemporary pool building with large glazed doors that open directly onto the garden. During colder months, the doors can remain closed to provide a sheltered indoor swimming environment. In warmer weather, they can be opened to connect the pool room with the surrounding outdoor space.
The swimming pool was finished in Autumn Grey Pool Colour Guard, complemented by large-format porcelain surrounds and detailed interior wall cladding. The combination of finishes was selected to work with the modern architecture of the building.
The pool provides space for regular swimming and exercise, while also being suitable for family use.
A solar polycarbonate slatted Aqua Top cover was installed to help retain heat and reduce evaporation when the pool is not in use. Water treatment is managed through an automatic chemical dosing system supported by UV disinfection, while white LED underwater lighting allows the pool to be enjoyed in the evenings.
A Heatstar environmental control system was also incorporated to manage humidity and maintain suitable conditions inside the pool building, particularly when the glazed doors are closed.
The defining feature of this project is its flexibility. The homeowners can enjoy an enclosed indoor pool during the winter months, then open the building to the garden when the weather improves.
It’s a practical approach to indoor pool design that gives the family greater freedom in how they use the space throughout the year.
