Set within the grounds of a hillside property, this project was as much about the surrounding landscaping as the swimming pool itself.
The clients wanted an outdoor swimming pool that would complement their home’s elevated position and countryside views, while incorporating practical features for the whole family.
We constructed a bespoke reinforced concrete swimming pool with a dedicated shallow paddling area for younger children, allowing them to enjoy the water alongside the main swimming area.
The pool interior was finished in Silver Shine Mauritian Slate, with Fossil Pearl Satin Limestone selected for the surrounding paving.
The most distinctive feature, however, was the client’s own paving design. Rather than laying the limestone in a conventional pattern, the slabs were arranged in large diamond formations, with strips of grass separating each section.
This combination of stone and greenery gives the poolside its unusual geometric appearance, while connecting the paved areas with the wider garden.
An automatic Aquamatic fabric cover was installed to help retain heat and reduce evaporation, together with a small air source heat pump for water heating.
White LED underwater lighting was incorporated for evening use, while a chlorine feeder and UV disinfection system provide water treatment.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the homeowners to incorporate their ideas, particularly the landscaping arrangement that makes this installation so recognisable.
The completed pool provides space for family swimming and children’s water play, with a surrounding terrace that is quite different from a traditional paved poolside.
It’s the client’s distinctive diamond-patterned landscaping that really gives this project its character, showing how the area around a swimming pool can be just as important to the overall design as the pool itself.
