The clients wanted a bright blue swimming pool that would complement their Georgian home, with the added benefit of being straightforward to maintain. They also wanted a separate spa that could be enjoyed throughout the year.
We recommended an Aqua Technics Royale swimming pool with a matching eight-seater Nova overspill spa, both finished in Twilight Pool Colour Guard. Granite copings and paving were selected for the surrounding area, with matching granite cladding to the spa sides.
The spa is one of the main features of the installation. During normal operation, it shares the swimming pool’s filtration system, with water gently spilling over into the pool below. When required, the spa can operate independently and be heated to approximately 40°C, providing a dedicated hydrotherapy area.
Both the pool and spa incorporate Aqua Technics’ Pool ColourGuard® surface technology, designed to improve colour retention and resistance to UV exposure and pool chemicals. Microtech antimicrobial surface protection also helps inhibit microbial growth.
The biggest challenge was what lay beneath the garden.
Work began in January on marshland, where an exceptionally high groundwater table made excavation particularly difficult. A large commercial pump had to operate continuously, supported by our own groundwater management equipment and submersible pumps.
The saturated ground also caused the excavation sides to collapse repeatedly. To establish a safer working area, we widened the excavation and battered the surrounding ground back at approximately 45 degrees.
This resulted in a substantially larger excavation than originally planned, with groundwater management remaining an important part of the installation.
Despite these difficult conditions, the pool and spa were successfully installed, providing the homeowners with the bright blue water and low-maintenance finish they had originally requested.
The combination of the Royale pool, cascading Nova spa and granite surrounds creates a modern outdoor swimming area that sits comfortably alongside the property’s traditional Georgian architecture.
