Petham Project

This pool is not just a pool – it is a masterpiece of design, craftsmanship, and innovation that demands recognition. It stands as a testament to the artistic vision and skill of the many contractors involved, including our team. The pool itself is beautiful, with the continuation of the Waterford cream tiles into the water creating a breath-taking focal point that contrasts beautifully with the rustic ancient flint and brick walls.

This installation transcends mere aesthetics – it is a triumph of functionality as well, incorporating innovative features like the custom-crafted hammerhead oak beam and the spacious, well-appointed plant room that enhance both the user experience and the surrounding environment. What was once an empty barn has been transformed into a true haven for relaxation and social gatherings, with inviting elements like the spa, sauna and indoor kitchen creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for family and friends.

The property utilises a highly efficient and environmentally friendly ground source heat pump (GSHP) system to heat the pool and pool building. Compared to traditional boiler systems, GSHPs offer numerous advantages; GSHPs do not release harmful pollutants, improving air quality. Additionally, the stable ground temperature allows for consistent heating and cooling year-round, even in extreme weather. Furthermore, the quiet operation of the GSHP system creates a more peaceful environment, which is ideal for this property.

It is a shining example of what can be achieved when creativity and dedication are combined, a true testament to the vision and craftsmanship of all involved. In fact, the pool building itself is exceptionally unique, featuring a very rare hammerhead oak beam that has not been replicated on any other property in the UK over the past 200 years- one of the greatest engineering feats of the Medieval period making this project one of a kind, quite literally. The hammerhead beam had to be 10 meter in width with no internal support posts, this would push traditional Oak framing to its limits.

This is a pool that enhances the entire property, a magnificent creation, not just in its appearance but in the meticulous work and attention to detail that has gone into its construction. No shortcuts were taken, everything is precisely executed, and the overall quality is of the highest standard, executed exceptionally well, making this pool worthy of an award

Project Overview

Sanitization: Automatic PH & Chlorine system
Lighting: 6 White LED Lights
Cover: Alu Look Slatted Cover
Extras: 2M Mosaic Spa

The building sits in the grounds of a 12th century Chantry and 16th century manor house necessitating a design that harmonises with its historic surroundings. It was suggested by Norton Timber to build a double hammer beam structure (the first known building of its type for over 200 years)as this accommodated the required span without additional supports. XL Pools were tasked with designing building and delivering a setting to complement the structure. This included deep bore ground source heating and state of the art monitoring and maintenance of the pool and jacuzzi in addition to other facilities. The finished product is of exceptional quality with superb attention to detail and styling.
